Is a retired teacher. I was born in Eugene, Oregon. I went to school in Eugene, and then to the University of Oregon where I earned a degree in elementary education. My first teaching job was for two years on the island of Guam. While there, I also visited the island of Saipan.
Returning to Oregon, I spent a year volunteering in a friend’s classroom in a low income school. Some of the children had learning challenges. I learned how use materials to help those students be successful.
The next year I began teaching in Salem, Oregon, and taught there for 28 years. I taught all grades from 1-6, but the last 19 years I taught third grade. I especially enjoyed teaching reading. I also enjoyed teaching social studies. The social studies curriculum in third grade is the history of the town you live in. Since Salem is the capital of Oregon, we had lots of interesting things to learn.
I have been out of the classroom for 17 years. I love to travel and have visited all but 7 of the 50 states. I have also been to Canada, Mexico, and Scotland. I love genealogy, and have traced lines of my family to some very interesting people. I love to go to the Oregon coast. I also like to read, and to spend time with my family and friends.
